How to Save on Holiday to Sydney Australia

Overview
Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, holds the distinction of being Australia's most populous city. Situated on the east coast of Australia, it encompasses Sydney Harbour and stretches approximately 80 km (50 mi) from the Pacific Ocean in the east to the Blue Mountains in the west. In the north and northwest, it extends about 80 km (50 mi) from the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and the Hawkesbury River, while in the south and southwest, it reaches the Royal National Park and Macarthur.

The city comprises 658 suburbs spread across 33 local government areas. Its residents, affectionately known as "Sydneysiders," make up around 66% of the state's population. As of June 2022, the estimated population of Sydney was 5,297,089. Sydney is often referred to as the "Emerald City" and the "Harbour City."

The Greater Sydney region has a rich indigenous history, with Aboriginal Australians inhabiting the area for over 30,000 years. Aboriginal engravings and cultural sites are prevalent throughout the region, and the traditional custodians of the land are the Darug, Dharawal, and Eora peoples. Sydney's European history began in 1770 when James Cook explored the eastern coast of Australia and landed at Botany Bay. In 1788, Arthur Phillip led the First Fleet of convicts, establishing Sydney as the first British penal colony in Australia.

Following World War II, Sydney witnessed significant migration, resulting in over 40% of its population being born overseas by 2021. The most represented foreign countries of birth include mainland China, India, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and the Philippines. As a tourist city, of course the cost of living is very expensive.
