It is the largest city among the Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto trio, with a population of over 17 million people in the greater metropolitan area. This vibrant city offers a wide range of attractions, including specific sights, restaurants, and accommodation options. In terms of districts, Osaka is administratively divided into 24 wards. However, for practical purposes, the following divisions are more commonly used: 1. Kita : This district represents the newer center of the city and includes the Kita ward . The main terminal, Umeda, is located here. You'll find a concentration of department stores, theaters, and boutiques around JR Osaka Station and Umeda Station, which provide access to various city and private railways.
2. Minami : Known as the traditional commercial and cultural center, Minami comprises the Chuo and Naniwa wards. Namba serves as the main railway station in this area, surrounded by department stores and vibrant shopping districts. Shinsaibashi and Horie are popular fashion areas, while Dōtonbori is renowned for its diverse culinary offerings. Semba , located between Kita and Minami, is home to business districts such as Yodoyabashi, Doujima , Hommachi , as well as the financial district of Kitahama .
3. Tennoji : This district primarily refers to the area surrounding JR Tennōji Station, Abeno, Tennoji subway stations, and Kintetsu rail lines at the southern end of Tennōji ward. The ward itself was named after the historical Shitennoji temple. Tennōji Park and Zoo are popular attractions in this area. To the west of Tennōji lies Shinsekai , which used to be an amusement area.
